How does it work?
We are a community project based in Loxley, Sheffield. We have approx. 4 acres of land on which we keep animals (pigs, sheep, poultry & bees) and grow fruit and veg. We work the land communally and share the produce so although nobody has their own plot, everyone can have a say in what we do on the site as a whole. We have regular meetings to plan the project, workdays twice a month and social events both on and off the farm.
We are a friendly and social group, most of us had no farming or growing experience when we started and we are keen to share what we’ve learned. We’re an established group and have a model that works but we are always keen to welcome new people with new ideas.
How much time do I need to commit?
It’s entirely up to you! Volunteers can come as and when they can. If you want to become a member then we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 workday a month and 1 feed a week once you feel happy that you know what you are doing
How much does it cost?
It depends on what you want to get out of the project! Members pay a monthly membership of £6.50 to cover running costs and then purchase the produce they want at cost price. Volunteering is free and volunteers get first offer of any surplus produce.
