A fresh tidy start to 2026

Our first work day in Jan was a beautiful sunny (but very cold) day. A tremendous effort by the team here at having a good clear out and tidy up, in multiple locations around the farm. Truth be told if the ground wasn’t frozen we might have done other things but it felt good to look around at those areas that were messy and are now soooo much better.

The pot shed

The potting shed has had a makeover, huge shout out to Kathryn for starting on this and creating a walk way and then helping to finish to create a now clean and organised shed

The scrap pile

It’s amazing how much stuff we seems to acquire that we don’t need. Some of it has been on the farm for decades and only recently discovered as we clear more overgrown land, for example the roof and sides of a 60s or 70s Ford van.

Yes it’s the same area! Thanks to Steel City Scrap and Waste Solutions for collecting and removing all the metal the same afternoon that we called them.

More tidying

The progress elsewhere provided motivation to continue our organisational fenzy spilling over into a messy area near the veg shed.

A good bonfire kept us warm while we went through the wood store – which must at one point have been a store for both good building wood and a place for drying short useless sections of rotten wood (as that’s what we pulled out of it).

We inaugaurated a new wood burner in the Roundhouse to keep us warm, upcycled gas cylinders work well for this.

We also moved the pig arc to slightly higher ground in an attempt to improve the conditions for our porky residents, which looked stunning as the setting sun picked it out.

New Year’s Gas

And why not have a new gas bottle on the kitchen stove for our tea’s and coffee’s as the previous one fizzled out on our first work day in 2026.

Lets hope we many other workdays as productive as this one.
